Imagine, clean windows naturally! How does Pilkington Activ™ Glass do it? By using UV energy from the sun--which is abundant even on cloudy days--to keep windows clean by a two-step process:

1. A photocatalytic process gradually breaks down, loosens and dissolves dirt and other organic residue so it breaks loose from the glass.
2. A hydrophilic action causes rain to sheet on the glass, carrying dirt away with minimal spotting or streaking.

So under most conditions, natural rain is sufficient to keep your windows clean. And in dry weather, a quick squirt with the hose will achieve the same result. Either way, Activ™ Glass dramatically reduces or eliminates window cleaning, providing crisp, clear vistas.

The secret is Pilkington's advanced pyrolytic technology, applying the Activ™ pyrolytic surface to clear float glass via an on-line chemical vapour deposition process. As a result, the advanced properties of Pilkington Activ™ Glass are integral to the glass surface--not just a coating that can peel, separate or disinigrate over time, or be damaged by liquid glass cleaners.

The proper application of Activ™ Glass is with the Activ™ surface glazed to the exterior of the building (first surface glazing), in either a monolithic or insulating glass unit.

The Activ™ surface requires several days exposure to daylight to be activated.

When combined with an inboard lite of either Pilkingtons Energy Advantage™ Low-E Glass (#3 surface) or Pilkington Activ™ Glass provides excellent energy efficiency.

• EASILY FABRICATED, it can be handled, cut, insulated, laminated and tempered using standard float glass techniques, and no edge deletion required--forlead times comparable to clear tempered glass, and unlimited shelf life for long-term storage, minimal inventory loss and assured availability.
